DataFetch Allows for Short-Distance Wireless ID Logging

The UniLogger scanning device includes a backlit two-line by 16-character alphanumeric display.

A new one-button wireless scanner can scan and transmit barcode information from an ID card or driver's license back to a logging computer located up to 200 feet away. DataFetch UniLogger is intended to eliminate paper-based logging activities and gather ID-based information about visitors and students.

A "starter kit," priced at $895, includes a barcode scanner, a Bluetooth interface, logging software, batteries, and a year-long warranty.

The scanning device includes a backlit two-line by 16-character alphanumeric display. The company said display of data is under five seconds from the time the scanner button is pressed. The software, which is Windows-compatible, allows a security administrator to block display of sensitive information and to link scanned data with a log report for auto-filling in XLS or HTML format.

Additional scanners are $695 and include the USB Bluetooth interface. An external USB mag strip reader is $129.
