NetApp Accepting Applications for Free Storage Systems

As part of its Education Donation Program, launched this month, NetApp will donate approximately 1,800 NetApp FAS3100 storage systems to education organizations throughout the United States.

The program, running through the end of 2011 or until donations run out, is open to not-for-profit higher education institutions and public and private K-12 schools in the U.S.

Applications will be reviewed as they come in, and donations will be awarded based on financial need or innovation. Institutions seeking a donation based on financial need should highlight information about budget cuts, such as teacher layoffs or  "recent press citing your state or city [or] county budget cuts," according to information released by the company.

Awards for innovation requests will go to institutions interested in using the donated system for email, student learning systems, VDI, virtualization, consolidation, back up, ERP, or for teaching storage topics in a student lab system.

Donations are limited to one system per institution and include a one-year four-hour warranty, a one-year software subscription, a three-year next-business-day hardware warranty, and one year of standard software support.
