New US Teacher Union, UK Company Project Enables Teachers to Share, Access Resources

The American Federation of Teachers (AFT) has partnered with TES Connect, based in the United Kingdom, to create an online network where educators can share and access learning materials, at no charge, according to a statement released by the company. The new website, "Share My Lesson", which includes educational resources geared toward the new Common Core State Standards, will be demonstrated by US and UK teachers at this week's ISTE 2012 conference in San Diego.

Share My Lesson provides a portal where teachers—from preschool to college—can share information and learning resources, said AFT President Randi Weingarten. Users will be able to upload, review, rate, and access materials, for free. The site will also offer resources from educational partners including Sesame Street, Oxfam, Green TV, and the Encyclopaedia Britannica.

"Share My Lesson supports teachers by giving them a place to come together and share their knowledge, skills, lesson plans and effective classroom strategies. It's by teachers, for teachers, and is an easy-to-use source for classroom resources—and it's free. It will become every teacher's go-to online destination for the support they need," Weingarten said. The site is expected to house more than 100,000 user-generated learning materials.

The AFT and TES Connect have invested $10 million in the new project, which is slated to launch July 28 at the AFT convention.
