Lightspeed Debuts Cloud-Based iPad Management Solution for K-12 Schools

Lightspeed Systems is launching a new cloud-based system designed to help K-12 schools manage their iPad deployments.

Lightspeed Systems developed Lightspeed Mobile Manager specifically for the education market with direct input from educators. It enables schools that use iPads in the classroom to manage the devices, filter content, and promote school-appropriate e-mail communication through a hosted e-mail service. And because the solution is cloud-based, schools do not need to spend time and effort installing and maintaining the software.

"iPad devices are powerful learning tools, changing the culture in classrooms across the country," said Brian Thomas, president of Lightspeed Systems, in a prepared statement. "We are honored to partner with schools to change the way these devices are managed and utilized. With just a few clicks, this new solution will allow schools to ensure their mobile learning goals are met--all backed by a safe filter and in the convenience of the cloud."

Key features of Lightspeed Mobile Manager include:

• iPad device management with Lightspeed's current Mobile Device Management (MDM) solution;
• Cloud-based mobile content filtering;
• Hosted e-mail communications with spam blocking; and
• Cloud-based file storage with Web distributed authoring and Versioning (WebDAV) support for managing documents.

A spokesperson for the company said the new cloud-based mobility solution works with iPad deployments only, not other mobile device deployments. The targeted release date is January of next year.
