Houghton Mifflin Brings Digital Readers to iPad
Educational publisher Houghton Mifflin Harcourt has unveiled a free iPad app designed to help children in grades K-6 to improve their reading skills. HMH Readers is available now in the iTunes App Store.
HMH Readers provides access to Houghton Mifflin Harcourt fiction and non-fiction digital readers to help students master Common Core standards. It allows students to read or listen to more than 1,300 Journeys and Literacy by Design leveled readers. These readers provide instruction materials in print, online, and through mobile applications, such as student e-textbooks, and a common core assessment app.
Features of the HMH Readers iPad app include:
- "My Readers," a library of materials that shows students which reading selections are available; allows them to search by title, author, or grade; and shows which texts were last read;
- Bookmarking of pages;
- Audio, which lets students listen to reading passages, with text highlighted as they are read; and
- Zoom, which allows students to read in full-screen view.
To add texts to My Readers, teachers will need to download them to the library. For use at schools, teachers will provide an authentication code for students to access My Readers.
The HMH Readers app includes one free reader sample; parents pay purchase additional ones for $2.99 in the virtual library by clicking on the parent-child button to select packs by grade.
