Sophia Offers New Math Resource for Middle School Students

Middle school students can now access a new learning resource designed to bolster their math skills.

Social learning and teaching Web site Sophia.org has teamed up with New Classrooms, a non-profit organization that aims to give students a personalized learning experience, to create a new set of free math tutorials created for middle school students. The New Classrooms branded tutorials support the organization's Teach To One: Math program.

Sophia's learning pathways—full course curriculum delivered in short, teacher-led tutorials—allow students to work through lessons and complete quizzes, at their own pace. The New Classroom pathways will follow suit with tutorials and quizzes, created and reviewed by educators, mapped to Teach to One: Math standards. A reporting feature allows New Classroom teachers to track student progress and mastery of concepts.

The new partnership underscores the organizations' commitment to personalized learning, according to Allison Gage, senior vice president at Sophia.

"For too long, our education system has been focused on teaching to the group versus to the individual student," said Gage, in a prepared statement. "New Classrooms shares our vision of providing individualized resources that target the unique needs of each and every learner."

Sophia's tutorials are free. Additional information is available at Sophia.org.
