EBSCOhost Adds Latino-Hispanic, Art and Architecture Digital Collections, More E-book Content for Academic Libraries
EBSCO Publishing has released a new digital archival database, The Latino-Hispanic American Experience: Leaders, Writers, and Thinkers, which is now available through the EBSCOhost Content Viewer.
The database includes almost 300,000 pages from more than 50 archival and manuscript collections. The material covers Latino-Hispanic civil rights leaders and organizations, prominent religious figures, and pioneering Latino writers and poets. It includes rare materials and personal documents, photographs, membership records, meeting minutes, sermons, flyers, correspondence, draft manuscripts, dramatic scripts, historical accounts, legends, essays, more than 100 unique newspapers, and 160 rare books. The materials were curated by the United States Hispanic Literary Heritage Project at the University of Houston and the database was produced through a partnership with Arte PĂşblico. The content is 80 percent Spanish and 20 percent English and is indexed and searchable in both languages.
The database is available through the EBSCOhost Content Viewer, which, according to the company, is "designed to allow researchers to navigate historical content in a manner that is fast, natural, and preserves the serendipity involved in doing historical research." It enables researchers to browse and read original archival material, as well as explore, collect, take notes, and export content.
EBSCO Publishing also released Art Source, a full-text resource for the study of art and architecture that was developed through a merger of databases from EBSCO Publishing and H.W. Wilson. Art Source covers fine, decorative, and commercial art, as well as architecture and architectural design. The materials in the database includes more than 600 journals, 230 books, 63,000 images, podcasts from museums, and reproduction records. Some of the periodicals are published in French, German, Spanish, and Dutch.
In related EBSCO Publishing news, eBooks from EBSCOhost has added thousands of e-books to its eBook Academic Collection, which now includes more than 112,000 e-books covering academic subjects such as technology, science, engineering, humanities, and social sciences. The collection is available to academic libraries through an annual subscription, which allows unlimited access to the content, unlimited downloads, and unlimited users. Users can search the collection on its own or together with other EBSCOhost databases.
