The New 2013 Learning Environments Opens Today in Orlando

Orlando, Fla. Administrators, educators, architects, designers and engineers in both K-12 and higher education will meet face-to-face today when the all-new 2013 Learning Environments conference and expo event kicks off at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla.

Learning Environments runs through Thursday and attendees will have the opportunity to earn up to 11.5 AIA Continuing Education Hours by attending the full conference program. Formerly the School and College Building Expo, Learning Environments has been re-energized to fully integrate the latest in education and construction trends including ideas in sustainability, adaptive reuse, programming and design.

The 2013 Learning Environments conference features opening keynote session speaker Matt Kaplan, author of ScholarScribe.com. He has been one of the voices behind science and technology stories in The Economist for years. His articles frequently wind up in National Geographic, Scientific American, Nature and New Scientist. Kaplan will speak Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. in Room SA1. Other distinguished keynote speakers include Dr. David Sousa, award-winning educational consultant and Anne P, Taylor, Ph.D., Hon. AIA, and Regents Professor in the School of Architecture and Planning at the University of New Mexico.

New for 2013 are poster sessions presenting unique, cost effective solutions for a wide variety of facility administrator's, architect's and designer's needs. Poster sessions will be held Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. and Thursday at 2:00 p.m. in the Exhibit Hall.  At the conclusion of the Thursday Keynote, Learning Environments will be raffling a full conference registration to the upcoming Learning Environments conference in Boston this July 29-31, a $695 value. Also new this year, all attendees will have an opportunity to win a $50 American Express gift card at the conclusion of each Learning Environments Theater Session held Wednesday at 12:30 and 2:30 p.m., and Thursday at 1:00 p.m. in the Exhibit Hall.

Learning Environments' attendees have the opportunity to become more involved with members of the AIA Advisory Group by attending the AIA CAE Winter Breakfast meeting Wednesday at 7:30 a.m. in Room S210B. Finally, the annual Learning Environments Reception, one of Learning Environments' most popular events, will be held Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. in Room S210A.

Learning Environments also offers a chance to explore additional areas of technology and its application to schools and campuses through its co-location with FETC. Known worldwide for its outstanding program, FETC provides educators, administrators, deans, curriculum designers, media specialists and technology directors the opportunity to explore the integration of technology across the curriculum.

The Learning Environments/FETC Exhibit Hall Grand Opening and Reception will be held this evening at 5:30 p.m., giving attendees a chance to speak with representatives from a wide variety of participating companies along with access to cutting-edge technologies influencing the landscape of education.
