Sophia Intros Free iPad Training for Educators

Educators using iPads in their classrooms can now access training, free of charge, to learn how to incorporate these devices into their instruction.

Sophia.org, a social learning and teaching Web site offering tutorials on a number of academic subjects, has teamed up with Capella University's School of Education to produce a new iPad Prepared Certification program. The new four-part tutorial series, developed by faculty at Capella University, aims to show teachers how to implement and use the Apple tablets in their classrooms effectively.

The tutorials in the new certification program include:

  • "What is a Personal Device Classroom,"
  • "Building an Effective iPad Lesson,"
  • "Increasing Student Learning with Technology,"
  • "Personal Device Resources and Management."

Teachers who complete the course will earn a Tablet Certificate, which they may apply toward their professional development, according to a statement from Sophia.

"Technology has become a critical tool for teachers to more efficiently individualize instruction for each student, in and outside the classroom," said Sophia Senior Vice President Allison Gage, in the prepared statement. "We developed this program to help teachers more effectively use the devices while also keeping students engaged by meeting them where they are in this digital age."
