Digital Curriculum Provider Adds Video to Teacher Resources

Digital curriculum and test prep provider Shmoop has added 26 new original educational video activities that teachers can use to supplement their teaching methods.

All of the new video activities are Common Core-aligned, according to a company release, with more scheduled to be added soon.

Teacher guides on Shmoop currently include sections within each topic for assignments and activities, quizzes, current events and pop culture, discussion and essay questions, challenges and opportunities, and related history and literature on Shmoop.

Other highlights of Shmoop guides include:

  • An essay lab to help teach the mechanics of essays and help students form and support an argument;
  • A "Best of the Web" section provides jumping-off points for "YouTube generation" students;
  • "Brain Snacks," which are interesting trivia nuggets for each lesson;
  • Study questions, by theme, for essay topics or class discussions; and
  • Analysis from multiple points of view, peppered with snark and pop culture references.

Subjects of study with learning guides available on Shmoop include literature, poetry, Shakespeare, mythology, music, pre-algebra, algebra, calculus, biology, United States history, civics, economics, biography, financial literacy, and college readiness and AP exams.

Shmoop was launched in 2008 and is headquartered in Mountain View, CA. The company offers more than 7,000 titles across the Web, iPhone, Android devices, iPad, Kindle, Nook, and Sony Reader.
