Canadian School Pilots Smart Classroom Bundle

Riverside Secondary School in Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada will test drive a digital classroom package with an integrated one-to-one educational interface designed to improve classroom management and encourage real-time participation, teamwork, and interaction in the classroom.

Eleventh grade physics students at Riverside Secondary School will be the first to use Samsung Electronic Canada's Samsung School, which consists of 31 Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 tablets, a 65-inch digital e-board, and Samsung software that can be accessed through Wi-Fi with a single log-in.

Designed to create a complete interactive learning environment, the Samsung school package offers a screen-sharing feature that allows course material to be distributed to each student's tablet. Students and teachers can then interact and share content with each other via a digital e-board. Teachers have the ability to engage their students in group activities, administer tests, or create instant polls, as well as share screens privately, which allows educators to work with students on an individual basis.

The software can also track student attendance, distribute general information, and display grade history. Teachers can distribute course materials such as e-textbooks, learning apps, and timetables, as well as notices and forums that can be accessed by students anytime. A monitoring and controlling function allows teachers to track and monitor the flow of educational content on their students' screens. In addition, an integrated real-time question and answer feature also lets students write a question on their device that will display on their classmates' screens as well as on the e-board.

"Although we've only just introduced Samsung School, it's already bringing such a dynamic energy to the classroom," said Riverside Secondary School Principal Anthony Ciolfitto, in a prepared statement. "As educators, there is nothing more fulfilling than seeing a class full of students who are engaged and excited to learn. This is revolutionizing the classroom experience for our students and teachers alike."

Through its pilot program, Samsung will gather data to enhance and improve Samsung School before it launches.

Riverside Secondary School, a public co-educational, dual track secondary school, serves approximately 1,400 students in grades 9-12. A leading technology school, Riverside has complete wireless network capability and offers a number of programs and courses that integrate laptops at all grade levels.
