Connecticut District Launches Online Course Registration Management System

Amity Regional School District #5 in Connecticut will streamline its community education registration process.

To manage its community and adult education programs, Amity selected MyCommunityEdPlus from Horizon Software International, a complete online management platform that allows K-12 school district's to create custom online course catalogs for community education courses. The software system handles the entire registration process, giving community members online and mobile access to browse course offerings, register, and pay.

In addition, the software allows users to design course descriptions using images and video, as well as offer discounts or promotional codes, deal with adjustments, track instructor information, make course assignments and contract details, and manage class sizes and prerequisites.

Other key features include:

  • Full-text search capability;
  • Easy-to-read dates and calendar;
  • Interactive locations map;
  • Links to similar courses;
  • Ability to register multiple family members at a time;
  • Course sharing via email and other social media; and
  • Course reminder emails.

MyCommunityEdPlus complements Horizon's MyPaymentsPlus, an online and mobile payment system that the district currently uses to process registration and payments for other school-related functions such as field trips, athletics, clubs and other extracurricular activities, and meal payments.

"Horizon develops great products that make online payments and registration both simple and secure — for members of the community and those who manage the District's Adult and Continuing Education finances and operations," said Yvonne Klancko, director of the Amity Regional School District No. 5 adult, continuing, and summer education programs, in a prepared statement. "MyCommunityEdPlus will make it even easier for people in our area to enroll in some great adult-education courses where they can pursue personal interests — or boost skills for professional advancement. It will also help us implement and manage our adult and continuing education program more seamlessly."

Located in Woodbridge, CT, Amity Regional School District #5 serves students in grades 7-12 in the communities of Bethany, Woodbridge, and Orange. The district's three schools include Amity Middle School in Bethany, Amity Middle School in Orange, and Amity Regional High School. The district's adopted budget for 2012-2013 is approximately $44 million.
