ShareStream Improves Video Tool for Sakai CLE

Online video platform developer ShareStream has unveiled Version 2.0 of its video tool that integrates with the open-source Sakai Collaborative Learning Environment (CLE). The ShareStream Video Tool is available now.

The Sakai Collaborative Learning Environment is an open-source learning management system that includes tools for research and project collaboration, and the creation of ePortfolios for students. The environment integrates with ShareStream's Pick-n-Play application, which provides a virtual dropbox for student content. In addition, ShareStream's MediaManager provides tools for video content management, including analytics and reporting, cataloging and metadata, digital rights management, and publishing features.

The Video Tool for Sakai provides the capability for teachers and students who use ShareStream to create and upload video, audio, photos, and lecture capture files into ShareStream.

Other features of the tool include the ability to:

  • Create clips for potential employers to view;
  • Tag materials using metadata to make it more easily searchable;
  • Search multimedia from the rich text WYSIWIG HTML editor in Sakai
  • Include multimedia assets and metadata in forums, messages, and announcements in ShareStream; and
  • Access multimedia assets via desktop computers, mobile devices, and sometimes podcasts and RSS feeds.

In addition, the Video Tool allows teachers to develop video assignments in Sakai, and students can upload their video assignments, which appear in Sakai Gradebook.

ShareStream will host a Webinar Wednesday, June 12 at 2 p.m., focusing on the ShareStream-Sakai integration.
