NASA Selects 12 Explorer Schools, 6 $5,000 Grant Winners

NASA has chosen 12 schools as NASA Explorer Schools, half of which will also receive $5,000 grants to implement a STEM project in their classrooms before next April.

Selected "for their contributions to science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) education in the 2012-2013 school year," according to an agency release, the "schools will receive a NASA certificate of recognition that includes an American flag that was flown in space."

"Congratulations to the 2012-2013 honor award and grant winners," said Diane DeTroye, NASA's director of STEM engagement in Washington, in a prepared statement. "By using NASA educational resources, innovative teachers brought new approaches to their classrooms to engage their students in STEM studies."
