Net3 Technology Unveils Education Cloud Services

Net3 Technology, a provider of cloud-based servers and data center platforms, has developed a cloud platform specifically for school districts and higher education institutions. Available now, the Palmetto Virtual Data Center Education Pod was unveiled at the South Carolina EdTech Conference.

The Palmetto Virtual Data Center Education Pod is a secure, cloud-based environment designed for education accounts, according to the Greenville, SC-based company. The data center is a virtual environment that allows schools to create virtual machines and upload new ones. It provides access to cloud storage for laptop and desktop computers, servers, databases, tablets, and phones.

Features of the education pod include:

  • The ability to adjust and readjust the amount of storage space as needed;
  • Production servers;
  • Business and disaster recovery services;
  • Access to files from anywhere with Internet access; and
  • Development and testing services.

"The proliferation of cloud computing within the IT organization is only increasing, and the District Administration Leadership Institute reported that 90 percent of K-12 institutions were relying on or implementing cloud technology for the 2012 – 2013 academic year. The burden of creating affordable solutions for the education market is a growing concern, as the cloud environment isn't something you just plug in or turn on and it all works," said Hudson Denney, founding partner of Net3 Technology, in a prepared statement.

Net3's cloud suite includes products from Cisco, EMC, HP, Actifio, Tintri, and VMware. The education pod starts at $58 for a 1 GB server.

The South Carolina EdTech Conference is taking place in Greenville until Oct. 11. Representatives from Net3 can be found at booth number 333.
