2 Florida School Groups Work with Private Partner on Next-Gen LMS

Two education entities in Florida have teamed up with a technology company to develop a new teaching and learning platform over the next year. Florida Virtual School (FLVS) and Leon County Schools will be working with Ucompass on development of "Educator 3." Both the virtual school and the district are already users of Educator, the company's current learning management system (LMS). The new edition is intended to provide tools for a blended environment that mixes teacher instruction with online activities.

Ucompass CEO and President Edward Mansouri said in a statement that he believes it is "only a matter of time before the technologies traditionally associated with online learning will be ubiquitous in the classroom for the benefit of students, teachers, and parents at all grade levels everywhere."

Educator 3 promises to extend the current LMS functionality by adding features to enable educators to perform prescriptive assessments of learners, perform analytics to derive the most promising approaches, and personalize instruction. FLVS will add digital materials it has developed for its own curriculum. And Leon County Schools will pilot the platform. A wider release is planned for the 2014-2015 school year.

"This collaboration gives us the opportunity to understand and take the steps needed to make our award-winning content even more beneficial in blended learning environments," stated Julie Young, president and CEO of the virtual school.
