Free Pinterest-Style Education Service Hosts Common Core Teaching Aids

MasteryConnect has created a new education service that takes a pinboard-based approach to social sharing, with a focus on tools and tips for teaching Common Core State Standards.

The service, Resource Pins, is a free tool for K-12 teachers modeled on Pinterest. It allows teachers to create and share individual teaching resources and build collections f tools like lesson plans, visual aids, tips and techniques and a range of other materials. The service had been running a limited pilot prior to today's rollout. According to the company, more than 10,000 posts had been made within the first few weeks of the pilot.

"Teachers can experiment and find which resources work best and resonate with their students," said Mick Hewitt, CEO and cofounder of MasteryConnect, in a prepared statement. "The more teachers use it, the more powerful it becomes. The ability to share resources for specific standards makes it so much easier to find the lesson materials you're looking for without sifting through clutter. Finally teachers have a social platform just for them and for their community."

"I love how you can narrow your search down, not just by grade and subject but also by state and even down to the individual standard," said Justin Bell, who teaches English at Northeast Magnet High School in Wichita, KS, in a prepared statement. "The Pinterest setup is visually appealing. It makes for easy scrolling and quickly finding who and what you're looking for. Plus, you can follow and re-pin teachers who post good stuff. It's very conducive to an online community."

Resource Pins is available now at no cost to educators.
