South Carolina District Refreshes Security Camera System

A South Carolina school district has undertaken an update of its video surveillance system. Lexington School District One is placing 1,200 cameras from Mobotix into 32 school and administration buildings.

The district is working with systems integrator CMI Networks to shift off of legacy technology and onto Mobotix high-resolution cameras, including the 360-degree Hemispheric Q25, two-lens DualDome D15, dome-format MonoDome D25 and 180-degree AllroundMono M25. Lexington has adopted MxControlCenter for centralized video management.

Each school has QNAP network attached storage servers with a 12- to 48-terabyte capacity. However, recording can take place on SD cards, to a USB stick or via the network to the NAS hard drives.

"We sought a surveillance solution that could take advantage of our current infrastructure while increasing camera coverage by 40 to 50 percent," said District Network Services Coordinator Allen Ray. "Integration with audio was also essential. We found surveillance to be a significant deterrent when combined with audio recording. With the Mobotix solution, we are able to gather details relating to incidents with high-resolution video and crisp audio, and determine the outcome quickly."
