Net Texts Adds Chrome Extension for OER Library

Net Texts, a free, Web-based library of open educational resources, has developed an extension for Chromebooks and the Chrome browser.

According to the company, the Chrome extension "expands on the capabilities of the Chrome app for Net Texts, which was released in May." The Net Texts app for Chrome lets teachers view, download and search for courses and then view course details or download items or units using their Chromebook or Chrome browser. With the addition of the new Chrome extension, teachers can download full courses or units and use them without an Internet connection.

Students can also use the app or extension to view and download Net Texts courses and units selected by their teachers, so they can view the associated videos, slideshows, e-books, PDFs, audiobooks and other resources online or off. When the student's device is connected to the Internet, the app or extension automatically syncs with Net Texts. Since teachers can add resources to a course at any time, synchronization ensures students always have access to the latest version of course materials.

In addition to Chromebooks, Net Texts also works with iPads, Android tablets and Windows or Mac computers. According to the company, Net Texts courses and units are standards-aligned and can be customized with the teacher's custom resources. Net Texts offers textbook replacement courses for grade 6-12 science, social studies, math and English.

The Net Texts extension and app are available for free download from the Chrome Web Store.
