Saskatchewan Adopts Digital Literacy Tools for Nearly 800 Schools

The Saskatchewan Ministry of Education has purchased two-year licenses for collections of digital literacy resources for all teachers and classrooms in the province.

From MediaSmarts, the collections include Passport to the Internet, MyWorld and the Web Awareness Workshop Series.

Passport to the Internet and MyWorld are classroom tutorials that "use simulations of kids' favorite online environments and activities to teach them about important topics like online safety, cyberbullying, protecting their privacy and authenticating online information," according to a news release.

The workshop series is a resource designed to help teachers understand and address key issues of digital literacy.

"A key component of Saskatchewan's Action Plan To Address Bullying and Cyberbullying is to ensure that all students have the tools and knowledge they need to develop appropriate and responsible online behaviour," said Saskatchewan Education Minister Don Morgan, in a prepared statement. "We are pleased to partner with MediaSmarts to provide educators with resources they can use to help keep students safe online."

Saskatchewan maintains 771 schools serving approximately 167,000 students.
