National Geographic to Give Young Students a Taste of Space

Elementary school students may soon get an up close view of the International Space Station--and a far-out view of Earth--thanks to new astronomy-focused programming initiative by National Geographic Learning.

The programming is the result of a partnership with the Center for the Advancement of Science in Space (CASIS), which is the organization responsible for managing the US section of the ISS, called the U.S. National Laboratory. Programming will align to the next generation science standards and feature detailed information on space travel and space-based research from the space station’s vantage point.

According to a statement by CASIS director of development and partnerships Ed Harris, the main goal of the project is to spark early interest in STEM subjects among young students.

"One of the key objectives of CASIS is to expand the value of the International Space Station by supporting STEM initiatives and inspiring students to look beyond our horizons," he said.
