Atlanta Public Schools Staff Taking Safety Training Online

Atlanta Public Schools will be adding online school safety training to its professional development management system. The 7000-staff district has signed with Scenario Learning to gain access to SafeSchools Training, which provides about 180 video courses on topics from "accident investigation" to "winter driving." Most of the videos run for 15 to 25 minutes, though some are shorter and some much longer.

Access to SafeSchools will be integrated into MyPLC, the district's training system, which tracks user credit and certification and district compliance. MyPLC in turn is hosted by Truenorthlogic, a talent management application for the K-12 environment.

"SafeSchools Training courses are short and easy for our staff to take and understand, so it's very impactful in a short period of time," said Janet Johnson, learning management specialist for the Atlanta district. Calling it a "versatile training option," Johnson added, "We love the flexibility that online training provides because we can have staff train individually in SafeSchools Training, or we can use the courses in a meeting or group setting for blended, group learning."

The service is also in use by Denton Independent School District in Texas, Washington County School District in Utah and North Gibson School Corporation in Indiana, among others.
