Xyleme Creates Cloud Bookstore iPad App for Lessons
Xyleme, a company that lets educators create and distribute digital lessons, is adding a new custom branded digital textbook app for iPad and Android.
Using the company’s other services, like it’s XML-based course creator, educators can develop their own text and multimedia lessons and publish them to different platforms. The new textbook app works almost like iTunesU or the Amazon Kindle app: Once instructors complete lessons from the company’s learning content management system, they push them out for students to download and interact with using features like full text search, annotations, highlights, and bookmarks.
Instructors can import materials, from text and graphics to video, from Word, PowerPoint, InDesign, and other software programs for use in their lessons, which are exported into learning objects and stored in XML format.
On the back end, instructors can control access to their materials and create and view reports on their lessons’ usage.
Links to download the app, which is branded differently for each organization, will vary.
