Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Launches Innovation Incubator

Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (HMH) is launching a new incubation effort, HMH Labs, in an effort to spur innovation in technology solutions for education.

As a part of the company's Technology Group, "the HMH Labs team will work with designers and developers across the organization and beyond to build cutting-edge tools for students, teachers and parents," according to a news release. "Leveraging APIs and an agile development model, HMH Labs will create an environment in which technologists can prototype across multiple modes of delivery in order to enhance the digital user experience and increase the accessibility of HMH's market-leading content."

Claudia Reuter, former CEO of recent HMH acquisition SchoolChapters, will head the team of digital managers, software engineers, solutions architects and UX specialists.

"To meet the challenges facing education across the United States and beyond, it's going to take experimentation and the incubation of new ideas. Digital innovation has the power to enable the transformation of the learning experience, but we know we've only scratched the surface," said Brook Colangelo, chief technology officer at HMH, in a prepared statement. "We're investing significantly in ed tech talent to accelerate the development of new digital solutions and further our growth as a digital content and media company."
