Boardmaker Releases iPad App for Students with Speech Disabilities

Boardmaker, a company that produces technology to help students in special education classes overcome speech, language and learning issues, has launched a new iOS app, the Boardmaker Student Center app.

The new app brings Boardmaker Online, which provides tools for personalized learning, therapy and progress monitoring, to the iPad in an attempt to improve accessibility. "With the new online tool, special education professionals can easily alter text, visuals, learning prompts and accessibility according to an individual's needs," according to a news release.

With the new app, students' accessibility settings will be activated as they log in to participate in activities assigned by a teacher, speech-language pathologist or parent. The app is designed for both online and offline use, and tracks student performance to be sent to their Boardmaker Online account when the device is connected to the Internet.

"With the release of the Boardmaker Student Center app, we now make personalized visual supports and symbol-adapted education materials more accessible to Boardmaker Online users," said Bob Cunningham, chief strategy and clinical officer at Tobii Dynavox, in a prepared statement. "The app extends instruction beyond the classroom by allowing students, parents and professionals to access assigned activities through the familiar and proven interface of the iPad."

The app is free to Boardmaker Online users and can be downloaded at the iTunes Store. More information about Boardmaker is available at boardmakeronline.com.
