39 California Schools Win Grants for Energy Education

Thirty-nine schools in California have been selected to receive grants ranging from $1,000-$10,000 for helping students understand renewable energy.

Awarded by Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) as part of its Bright Ideas Grants program, the funds are given to schools for excelling in five categories:

  • Educational solar projects;
  • Energy and environmental programs for youth;
  • Field trips related to science or the environment;
  • Green school projects; and
  • Professional or workforce development projects.

"PG&E is pleased to support innovative educational programs that teach local students in our communities about renewable energy," said PG&E President Chris Johns, in a prepared statement.. "The Bright Ideas Grant program is dedicated to teachers throughout Northern and Central California who are inspiring young people to dream up the next big ideas in sustainable energy."

Totaling $250,000, this year's awards are the latest in more than $2.5 million disbursed by the Bright Ideas program. For a complete list of winners or to apply for next year's grants, visit pge.com.
