Metro Nashville Schools Shares Data-Driven Decision Making Process

Metro Nashville Public Schools (MNPS) has teamed with a nonprofit partner to release a video detailing its practices for incorporating data into decision making.

Since launching its data-driven decision making process four years ago, the district has seen achievement improvements in math, English, social studies and science, as well as improvements in graduation rates.

Practices incorporating data into decision making at MNPS include:

  • Team meetings for support and intervention, in which teachers and support staff use common planning time to discuss student data;
  • Chats providing students an opportunity to discuss their own data with teachers and principals;
  • Parent chats during the evening to help parents understand their student's data and how they can help them; and
  • Data sharing with after school programs.

The video was produced by the Data Quality Campaign, an organization that aims to help education stakeholders make better decisions with data. More information about how MNPS uses data in decision making is available at dataqualitycampaign.org.
