Gale Debuts Research Resource for Students in Middle School

Gale has unveiled a new online resource, Research in Context, aimed at students in middle school and designed to bridge the gap between resources for students in elementary schools and those for students in high school.

"Built entirely on feedback from librarians and students, Gale's Research in Context is aligned to national and state curriculum standards and brings together cross-disciplinary, authoritative content with multimedia in a student-friendly, mobile-responsive interface," according to a news release.

Covering topics such as literature, science, social studies, United States history, world history and more, the collection includes books, biographies, audio, images, videos, magazines, newspapers, primary source documents, magazines and more, all appropriate for middle school students.

Features of Research in Context include:

• Responsive design, for easy access from any device;
• The ability to highlight text and take notes;
• Translations in 12 languages;
• Text-to-speech technology for all 12 languages;
• The ability to print or download unlimited numbers of resources; and
• Tools for creating proper citations.

"Information literacy skills are important for a student's academic and career success, and middle school is a critical time for developing these skills," said Paul Gazzolo, senior vice president and general manager at Gale, in a prepared statement. "Research in Context fills an important market need for modern, engaging research tools for the curious middle school student."
