Curriculum Associates Adds Close Reading Lessons for Grades 3-5

Curriculum Associates has updated its online i-Ready Diagnostic & Instruction program with new close reading lessons for students in grades 3-5.

Aligned to the Common Core, the new lessons are designed to deepen comprehension and improve motivation as students get used to reading rigorous texts on their own.

Designed to provide additional instruction and practice, the lessons "give students the opportunity to interact deeply with challenging, high-quality literary and informational texts, supported by familiar i-Ready characters," according to a news release. "Handpicked by literacy experts, the new lessons offer complex and authentic texts from well-known, award-winning authors of literary texts, including Pam Muñoz Ryan, Sandra Markle, Joseph Bruchac, and others."

Informational texts in the new lessons are drawn from real-world sources and include selections from periodicals aimed at children.

"Close reading is an uber-strategy that helps students to independently comprehend increasingly challenging texts," said Ray Reutzel, author at Curriculum Associates, in a news release.
