McGraw-Hill Launches Inspire Science

McGraw-Hill Education has introduced Inspire Science, the company's new core science curriculum for grades K-5.

McGraw-Hill Education designed Inspire Science to address Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), and as specified in the NGSS, the curriculum blends science and engineering practices with problem-based learning, literacy and math skills. With this new science curriculum, the company "aims to help teachers improve student results in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) by motivating students to become curious, creative problem solvers," according to a press release.

Inspire Science covers six-to-seven modules per grade, according to information on the company's site. Digital resources for teachers include a teacher's guide, pre-made lesson presentations, coach and demo videos, and story-to-science read-aloud e-books with audio for kindergarten to grade two. Digital resources for students include a digital science notebook, a science handbook for grades 3-5, digital simulations and labs, leveled e-books and science articles, videos and games, e-assessments and worksheets. Physical resources include lab kits, story-to-science read-alouds, leveled readers, teacher's guide, science notebook and science handbook.

Key features of Inspire Science include:

  • Hands-on and problem-based learning activities;
  • Digital learning resources, including interactive content and simulations, combined with print resources for reading, journal writing and problem solving;
  • Nonfiction readings paired with text-dependent questions as well as paired readings with fiction and nonfiction connections;
  • Practice writing arguments and explanations in the context of science; and
  • Training and professional development support for teachers.

Inspire Science launches in August 2015 and McGraw-Hill Education will add additional content, features and updates in the fall. Further information about Inspire Science can be found on McGraw-Hill Education's site.
