Shmoop Launches Resources for Behavioral Interventions

Shmoop has launched new resources designed to the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support (PBIS) framework.

The new materials include teacher guides and online courses covering 16 different behavioral expectations, including things such as respect, leadership and commitment.

The teacher guides feature scripted curricula with introductions to PBIS, answers to common questions, teacher prep outlines, lesson plans, homework instructions and matrices for the expectations.

The online courses are designed for students to complete on their own. They include introductions to the relevant expectation, reading material, automatically graded quizzes, examples of what happens when people ignore the specific behavioral expectation and videos designed to encourage student interest. For teachers, each course includes extension notes, questions for discussion and differentiation techniques. The courses can be given to individual students who need a refresher on expectations or to an entire class.

"We take the tell-it-like-it-is approach, which is why our official PBIS motto is 'don't be a jerk,'" said David Siminoff, founder of Shmoop, in a prepared statement. "It applies in every situation."
