Atlantic County Schools Goes Solar at 2 Sites

The Atlantic County School District has completed installation of two solar power projects totaling 600 kilowatts.

Installed at the Atlantic County Institute of Technology and the Atlantic County Special Services School, the two systems together will produce approximately 800 kilowatt-hours of electricity each year, enough to offset 550 metric tons of carbon dioxide, or about 600,000 pounds of burnt coal.

"The Atlantic County Schools are proud to embrace solar power, a renewable energy source, and reduce our dependence on fossil fuels," said Philip Guenther, superintendent at the district, in a prepared statement. "We look forward to the financial and environmental benefits of this clean energy source and believe our students will be the true long-term benefactors of this project. Our Board of Education and employees continue to be committed to improving lives by providing quality programs and protecting the environment that we all share."
