New LMS for Washington District Supports Standards-Based Curriculum

In an effort to manage its standards-based curriculum throughout the district, Federal Ways Public Schools in Washington state has decided to implement a new learning management system (LMS).

Federal Ways administrators picked Edupoint's LessonVUE Curriculum Management program, anticipating it would lead to rapid adoption among teachers, an easily searchable curriculum content repository, greater gradebook integration, customizable curriculum maps and more powerful analytics.

"Implementing a standards-based curriculum can be a daunting task," said Federal Ways Public Schools ITS Executive Director Ron Mayberry. "Lesson VUE has proven to be an invaluable resource to help us achieve this. Its tight integration with all the components eliminates redundant data entry tasks, and the centralized curriculum repository stores districtwide curriculum elements while helping teachers easily find and use the best resources for each student."

With a standards-based curriculum, students are expected to demonstrate understanding or mastery of the knowledge and skills they are expected to learn as they progress through their education. Learning standards determine the goals of a lesson or course, and teachers then determine how and what to teach students so they achieve the learning expectations described in the standards.

Federal Ways was already using another component of Edupoint's Synergy Education Platform: its Synergy Student Information System.

"We are solving the complex integration problems that most districts are facing as it relates to SIS and LMS data," said Edupoint President and Chief Innovation Officer Rob Wilson, "while providing our clients with robust access to information to help them improve student outcomes."

Federal Ways Public Schools has about 22,000 students in Kings County, WA.
