Army Offers STEM Teachers a Summer Research Experience
A
new program associated with the United States Army is
preparing a summer program to help teachers of science, technology,
engineering
and math (STEM).
Applications
are being accepted through April 22
for the Research Experiences for STEM Educators and
Teachers (RESET) program
planned by the Army Educational Outreach Program (AEOP).
While
some participants will experience the
workshops via an online portal, others will spend up to four weeks in
an Army
laboratory. The goal is to provide a summer experience for teachers of
underserved populations and reinforce their content knowledge through
research
and interaction with U.S. Army and Defense Department scientists and
engineers.
One
group of about 20 participants will complete
two online learning modules, each lasting about a week. In the early
summer,
all participants will work on the Introduction to Research course and,
in late
summer, Taking Research Into the Classroom.
A
smaller group of those same participants —
probably six — will experience four weeks of paid on-site research time
at a
participating U.S. Army laboratory. Those working in the labs will
share their
research with the others on a weekly basis.
AEOP
is an Army-sponsored program intended to
help students and teachers of STEM subjects.

participants and applicants can learn
