Pike County SD Adopts College Search Tools

Pike County School District in Georgia has selected a K-12 college and career readiness platform in an effort to help students find the colleges that best suit them in terms of academic fit, affordability, size and culture.

Public schools in the state of Georgia are required to meet standards set by the state's College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI), and Pike County's district leaders said they wanted a tool that could help them "track student readiness across the district to inform a district-wide strategy," according to a news release.

"We want to ensure that our students are able to compete for seats in the best-fit universities and for careers that require critical thinking and creative problem solving," said Mike Duncan, superintendent of Pike County, in a prepared statement.

The district selected Naviance by Hobsons, a K-12 college and career readiness platform designed to help students explore potential careers, create an academic plan and prepare for college. Pike County will implement the platform district-wide beginning in fall 2016. School counselors will use it to help middle and high school students "explore their interests and strengths, discover the connection between academics and career paths, uncover new college and scholarship opportunities and create plans to achieve their goals," according to a news release.

Pike County School District is located in Zebulon, GA and serves approximately 2,800 students in two elementary schools, one middle school, one high school and one alternative program. Pike County is the first public school district in the state to implement the Naviance by Hobsons platform district-wide.
