Social Science Techbook Adds Civic and Government Course

The newest course added to the Social Science Techbook promotes inquiry-based learning and incorporates interactive content, exclusive videos and more.

The Social Studies Techbook, an interactive digital textbook from Discovery Education, has expanded its offerings to include a course that encourages students to explore the rights, roles and responsibilities of U.S. citizens and the purpose of government.

The new Civics and Government course for grades 6–8 includes dynamic digital content. As part of the Techbook series, the course engages students through an inquiry-based learning process. The course also includes interactive features that teach civic discourse, such as debates and role-playing.

Other features of the course include:

  • A teacher dashboard that allows communication with students;
  • Exclusive videos and primary source documents;
  • A weekly videos series called Global Wraps that features current events; and
  • Digital exploration and interactive maps.

In addition to the Civics and Government course, the Social Studies Techbook has World Geography and Cultures, World History and U.S. History courses.

All Techbooks in the series also include research-based professional development that supports educators as they use the digital content. Teachers using Techbooks can access the Discovery Education Community, a global network of education professionals, connects teachers and administrators with social media, virtual conferences and in-person events.

“Social Studies Techbook provides challenging and meaningful learning experiences for our students and encourages them to think critically,” said Tonya Faison, principal at James Martin Middle School in North Carolina, in a statement. “We are looking forward to integrating this dynamic new course into instruction to further promote civic engagement and civil discourse among our students.”

Further information about the new course is available on the Discovery Education site.
