National Science Teachers Association Release Back-to-School Resources for Parents
The NSTA is offering free resources for parents to support their students in science learning.
The National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) has released a number of free resources to help parents support their children in science learning in the upcoming school year. Parents can use the NSTA resources to learn about science education standards and find out ways to become involved at home and in school.
The list of resources is organized into five sections, with the first section including information on Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), or expectations for what K–12 students should know and be able to accomplish in class. Parents can quickly learn about NGSS by reading NSTA’s Q&A or position statement.
The second section provides tips for parents to get involved at school, including “10 Questions Your Kid’s Science Teacher Wishes You Would Ask.” The questions aim to encourage parents to learn more about a school’s science program.
The third section informs parents of science competitions for their students to participate in and further learning, including the NSTA Angela Award, Bright Schools Competition, TOMODACHI Toshiba Science & Technology Leadership Academy and others.
The fourth section features NSTA Recommendations, a catalog of science books, software and videos that are favored by science teachers, and NSTA Kids, a line of children’s picture books.
Lastly, the fifth section offers resources to science teachers, broken down by grades K–5, 6–9 and 9–12.
