Math for America Commits $2.5 Million to CS4All

A New York-based organization that trains K–12 math and science teachers is joining an initiative to bring computer science education to all 1.1 million New York City public school students. Math for America (MƒA) has committed $2.5 million over the next five years to the Computer Science for All (CSForAll) initiative launched last year by NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio.

The $2.5 million donation will help train close to 5,000 NYC teachers over the next ten years. Furthermore, the donation brings CS4All’s funding total to more than $20 million in its first year, surpassing its halfway goal of reaching $40 million in the first five years. The program has currently reached 246 schools and trained more than 450 teachers.

“Through this landmark public-private partnership, we will level the playing field for every student in every borough,” said Gabrielle Fialkoff, senior advisor to the mayor and director of the Office of Strategic Partnerships. “Computer Science for All is an investment in creating opportunities for all of our young people, particularly in a global economy where technology is integral to every industry.”
