NEC Display Solutions of America has launched a new line of direct-view LED displays designed to be easily viewed from long distances, making them suitable for outdoor signage on building exteriors and indoors in large auditoriums or lecture halls.

The new LED displays offer 1.2-mm to 6-mm pixel pitch for indoor applications and 5.8-mm to 12-mm pixel pitch, meaning the distance between dots is higher, thus making it easier for long-distance viewing. It also offers 24bit color processing, making for smoother and clearer images.

"Institutions today need bigger screen sizes, bright and color-accurate crystal-clear images, zero bezels and the ability to easily service and upgrade to create unique video walls," said Grant Wylie, senior product manager for LED display solutions.

The new displays typically have a lifespan of about 100,000 hours and maintenance is limited because of a rear serviceable module. Panels can be arranged in either a concave or convex configuration, if necessary, and can be replaced and upgraded with easy color calibration to ensure uniformity if and when a panel is replaced.

NEC offers design consulting to colleges and universities to assure that its customers have the right technology for specific needs, at the same time making sure the components are correctly installed and staff members are trained on how to use them.

The new LED displays come with an expanded three-year warranty.
