Manassas Park City Schools Named Extreme Exemplary School

Manassas Park City Schools in Virginia recently received an Extreme Exemplary School Award from Extreme Networks.

Each quarter, Extreme Networks selects one of its customers as an Extreme Exemplary School based on its commitment to promoting lifelong learning, individualized instruction and curricular growth. In the past year, Manassas Park City Schools expanded its 1-to-1 initiative to grades 5 through 7. All students in grades 5 through 12 now have a dedicated device to use in the classroom. The district supports more than 3,000 devices for personalized learning and online state testing initiatives. The devices connect to Extreme Networks' software-driven wired and wireless network infrastructure with ExtremeManagement.

To qualify for the Extreme Exemplary School Award schools must implement:

  • A 1-to-1 or bring-your-own-device (BYOD) mobile learning environment to promote the concept of lifelong learning;
  • A network and resources that permit personalized learning; and
  • Infrastructure that readily adapts to varying curricular needs, including e-books, streaming video and blended or flipped learning.

The school district is working towards the goal of "delivering an all-digital learning environment across the district," said Bruce McDade, district superintendent, in a news release.

Robert Nilsson, director of vertical solutions at Extreme Networks, described the district as "a prime example of a school that uses data-driven insights to inform decisions and proactively enhance personalized learning for each student in their district."

Representatives from Extreme Networks presented the award during a school board meeting on October 17.
