Literacy Curriculum Provider Launches iOS App

A company that offers digital, differentiated literacy curriculum for English language learners (ELLs) has launched a new mobile app that includes more than 300 sequenced lessons.

Learning Upgrade offers comprehensive reading and math lessons specifically designed for ELL students, using songs, videos and games. The company also offers a set of Common Core courses for English and math.

With the Learning Upgrade iOS app, “ELLs of all ages can work through lessons anytime and anywhere,” according to a company statement. The mobile app includes more than 300 sequenced lessons that cover topics like phonics, decoding, vocabulary, grammar, writing and listening. Additionally, the app tests comprehension with practice problems, which can unlock rewards when students meet certain benchmarks. Students who start with lesson one, for example, must earn 100 points with more than 75 percent of questions answered correctly in order to advance to lesson two. They can earn a virtual bronze medal for scoring more than 75 percent; silver for more than 90 percent; and gold for more than 95 percent.

The company released the app in Google Play last year. The iOS version is now available in the Apple App Store for free. Both versions offer lessons for grades 1 to 5.
