CTL Debuts J5X Convertible Touch Chromebook for Education

CTL has introduced a new convertible, touch-capable laptop designed to withstand the rigors of student-use in K–12 classrooms, the company announced Friday at the Future of Education Technology Conference (FETC) in Orlando, FL.

The new CTL J5X Chromebook features a 11.6-inch HD (1,366 pi x 786 pi) display with a “flip” 10-point touch panel. The J5X has an “extra rugged” design that can withstand a drop from up to 2.3 feet, as well as a water-resistant keyboard. Its pressure-resistant cover can withstand more than 300 pounds of pressure from the top and doubles as a whiteboard. Its reinforced ports, hinges, power plug and screen frame all help absorb the shock of bumps and drops.

Other key product features include:

  • Intel N3060 (2.48GHz with 2M Cache) Braswell processor;
  • 4GB LPDDR3 RAM 32 GB eMMC hard drive;
  • Chrome OS;
  • Wireless-802.11ac 2x2 with Bluetooth 4.0;
  • A combo audio jack and three USB 3.0 ports;
  • One HDMI, 1 micro SD card;
  • An HD web camera; and
  • Up to 10 hours of battery life.

The CTL J5X Chromebook costs $289, with a one-year accidental damage warranty included in the price.
