IXL Learning Adds Adaptive Spanish Curriculum

IXL Learning, a personalized learning program for grades K-12, has launched its first world-language curriculum, IXL Spanish.

IXL Spanish is designed to inspire real-life communication by integrating cultural lessons with language learning. After reading a text about physical education in Mexico, for example, students answer questions about what it's like to attend school in the other country. Audio recordings also include 12 different accents, preparing students for communicating with people in the real world.

Other features include:

  • Alignment with popular Spanish textbooks and standards from the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages;
  • An adaptive curriculum designed to help students master fundamentals so teachers can focus on speaking practice, small-group instruction and more;
  • Practice involving real-world communication scenarios;
  • Concepts broken down into simple components;
  • Opportunity for unlimited practice; and
  • Analytics tools to identify where students are struggling.

IXL Spanish covers Spanish I and is designed for students in middle school and high school.

"IXL Spanish is no ordinary world language program. It goes beyond the flat, printed page to provide a world of playful, fascinating online material that you can't resist immersing yourself in," said Paul Mishkin, CEO of IXL Learning, in a prepared statement. "Through IXL, students will develop such proficiency in the fundamentals of Spanish that they'll become second nature. This is true fluency, and it frees learners to have more creative, lively and authentic conversations."
