New Streaming Service Produces Virtual College Fairs

A new service has opened up specifically to host virtual college fairs. StreamableU from Streamable Learning will feature livestreams of college admissions departments and a subscription service with online events with college preparation experts. The livestreams are typically 20 to 40 minutes long and interactive, with chat-based real-time question and answer sessions.

The goal of the service, according to Director Eric Endlich, is to put college admissions representatives in touch with students who may otherwise not be on their radar and to enable "excellent but lesser-known colleges to extend their reach to prospective students."

Streamable Learning is better known for its K-12 livestreams that are designed to bring subject matter experts and students together for schools, districts and homeschoolers.

So far, school districts and educational organizations in Florida, Illinois, Michigan, New York, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Texas have committed to using new platform.

While the virtual college programs will be free to participants, the live streaming college prep sessions are accessible only with a $99 subscription. Students with subscriptions will gain access to ACT and SAT test prep boot camps and workshops on topics such as choosing high school courses, passing exams, building a college list, preparing for interviews, making the most of college fairs and college visits and applying for scholarships and financial aid. The service said it would devote specific programs to people with particular interests, such as athletes, artists or those with special needs.
