Boston Museum of Science EiE Offering Computer Science Essentials PD for Elementary Teachers

EiE, the curricula division of the Boston Museum of Science, has launched an online learning program to prepare elementary educators to teach EiE’s Computer Science Essentials curriculum for grades 1–5.

The new EiE Computer Science Essentials PD Library is offered through the LINC: The Learning Innovation Catalyst platform, according to a news release. EiE’s PD Library “leverages LINC's next-generation virtual coaching and professional learning platform” to bolster educator confidence and competence in student-centered computer science instruction, the announcement said.

EiE’s instructional content has enabled children to become lifelong STEM learners and passionate problem solvers since 2003, with PreK–8 curricula designed to “encourage all children to see themselves as engineers,” the organization said. EiE's curricula includes print, online, and blended hands-on lessons founded on principles in engineering, science, and computer science.

Educators participating in the new PD courses will, through a series of 60-to-90-minute learning cycles, explore Computer Science Essentials lessons based on LINC’s Spark–Reflect–Tinker–Grow learning model, according to the news release. “With a combination of video, text, interactive questions, and guided planning documents, educators practice and build critical skills to facilitate high-quality computer science instruction in their classrooms,” EiE said.

EiE’s STEM instructional content is used by more than 44,000 educators in 50 states, and more than 18 million elementary students have learned STEM foundational skills through the EiE lessons, according to the Museum of Science website. Learn more at www.eie.org.

LINC’s professional learning for educators is used by K–12 schools in 34 states and 13 countries, according to its website. Learn more at LINClearning.com.
