Digital learning platform Nearpod has expanded its partnership with Next Gen Personal Finance in order to provide free access to the nonprofit's personal finance curriculum, according to a news release.
Next Gen Personal Finance, a nonprofit whose mission is instilling personal finance skills in all high school students before they graduate, will provide the curriculum, covering everything from taxes to investing. The content will be accessible at no cost on Nearpod’s platform, Nearpod said.
The organizations noted that financial literacy education is limited in U.S. public schools — and such instruction actually impacts change in students’ lives, according to research from the National Endowment for Financial Education. That study found that after a three-month financial literacy course, 60% of the high school students participating in the course had changed their savings patterns, 80% reported that they were saving for what they really need or want, and 20% said they were saving every time they had made money.
The partnership expansion builds on the existing NGPF lessons already on Nearpod, which the organizations said have been accessed by students on the platform over 4 million times. The new content includes lessons on taxes, checking account management, savings accounts, paying for college, types of credit and managing credit scores, investing, insurance, and budgeting — all in a nine-week course.
