Adaptive writing curriculum provider NoRedInk has added a new assessments feature called Benchmarks to its premium solution, enabling educators to measure growth in students’ writing skills school- or districtwide, according to a news release.
NoRedInk, whose browser-based adaptive writing curriculum is used by over 60% of U.S. school districts, said the new Benchmarks feature delivers standards-aligned assessments that “track student progress against internal goals and state standards, identify opportunities for timely interventions, and adjust curriculum and instructional practices responsively.”
The free version of NoRedInk’s writing curriculum will not include the new Benchmarks assessments; subscribers to the premium version will see that Benchmarks assessments are now integrated into the platform, NoRedInk Vice President of Sales & Success Steve Gardner told THE Journal.
Benchmarks provide a streamlined alternative to relying on end-of-year assessments by enabling schools to consolidate benchmarking, writing practice, and remediation in a single platform — and it allows immediate intervention and lesson responsiveness as the platform “adapts” to Benchmarks results, the company said.
School leaders on the premium subscription plan can choose from a library of pre-made Benchmarks, customize one to their unique needs, or build one from scratch, NoRedInk said; the pre-made Benchmarks are based on state and national standards for grades 5–12. After students complete each Benchmark, educators can view performance data by topic, student, teacher, and school.
