Toshiba Releases Software Suite for Education

Toshiba's Digital Products Division (DPD) has unveiled a new software suite for education called the Education Solutions Program, which is intended for K-12 teachers, students, administrators, and parents.

The suite, which was announced at the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) 2013 conference and expo taking place this week in San Antonio, TX, includes Microsoft Office Home and Student 2013, ePals Learn365, Solaro Study Guides, Solaro Validation Tool, and Norton Internet Security.

Microsoft Office Home and Student 2013 includes Word, Excel, OneNote, and PowerPoint. The tools let students and teachers create and share documents, spreadsheets, notes, and presentations at home or at school.

ePals Learn365 is a learning environment for implementing project-based learning and science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) related learning. ePals Learn365 can be implemented on a school or district-wide basis can supports integration with major student information systems.

Solaro Study Guides provide an overview of curriculum concepts and provide practice questions and solutions for self-study and self-testing.

The Solaro Validation Tool offers lessons, activities, and exercises aligned with state-specific and Common Core standards for grades three through 12. The tool includes thousands of lessons in math, English language arts, science, biology, chemistry, physics, and earth sciences. It also lets teachers create online or print practice assignments from a database of standards-aligned questions. Students can complete the assignments anytime from any web-enabled device, and the assignments are automatically scored.

Norton Internet Security helps protect computers from viruses, malware, spyware, and unauthorized access when browsing the web or downloading files or applications.

According to a news release from the company, the software applications can be purchased individually or as a bundle on new Windows-based Toshiba PCs and tablets.

According to Toshiba, the Education Solution Program is ideal for the company's line of tablets and ultrabooks. Toshiba is demonstrating several of its new devices at ISTE 2013, including the Toshiba Excite tablets and Portege Z10t Detachable Ultrabook. The Excite tablets feature high definition AutoBrite displays with NVIDIA Tegra 3 Super 4-PLUS-1 quad-core processors and run on the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system. The Portege Z10t Detachable Ultrabook features a 11.6-inch full high definition touchscreen display with a digitizer and pen that connects to a detachable keyboard.
