Apex Learning Launches Tutorials for Blended Learning
Apex Learning, a provider of blended and virtual learning solutions for secondary education, has launched a new line of digital learning solutions, called Tutorials, which are designed to help teachers implement blended learning in the classroom.
Apex Learning's Tutorials cover math and English language arts for grades 9-12 and are aligned to the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and Texas STAAR requirements. According to the company, teachers can use the Tutorials in the classroom to individualize instruction for all students, provide targeted intervention and just-in-time remediation for struggling students, and improve their classroom instruction.
The Tutorials work on Android tablets or iPads, as well as netbooks, laptops, and desktop computers. They use text, audio, video, and interactive media with the goal of motivating students while accommodating various learning styles and personal preferences.
Each Tutorial is divided into content modules, and each content module is organized into four segments: Learn It, Try It, Review It, and Test It. Before beginning each unit, students complete a diagnostic pretest that identifies their strengths and weaknesses. The Tutorials use that information to develop an individualized learning plan that directs the students to relevant content modules. At the end of each unit, students complete a posttest to assess learning and help teachers evaluate student progress.
"While online courses have gained acceptance and are widely used by school districts for credit recovery and acceleration, blended learning is still gaining traction in a majority of classrooms," said Cheryl Vedoe, CEO of Apex Learning, in a prepared statement. "There is a need for digital content designed for use by classroom teachers, and that was our goal in developing the new Tutorials."
The new Tutorials will be available in October. CCSS Tutorials include Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Mathematics I, II, III, and English 9, 10, 11, 12. Texas STAAR Tutorials include Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II and English I, II, and III.
