Dell Unveils PowerEdge VRTX Converged IT Solution for Schools
Dell has launched the PowerEdge VRTX, a new integrated server, storage, network, and management solution designed for K-12 school systems.
According to the company, the Dell PowerEdge VRTX can help schools build the IT infrastructure required for implementation of online educational resources, collaborative learning environments, and Common Core online assessments. The compact system combines servers, storage, networking, and management into a unit that fits under a desk.
Mohawk Regional Information Center of Madison-Oneida Board of Cooperative Educational Service (BOCES) in New York has already implemented the PowerEdge VRTX to reduce its IT footprint while implementing a virtualized platform.
"With one VRTX enclosure, a district can host dozens of virtual machines in a very small footprint," said Joe DiFabio, telecommunications specialist for Mohawk Regional Information Center of Madison-Oneida BOCES. "Dell PowerEdge VRTX gives our school districts the ability to fail over between compute nodes in the same enclosure, which can really make a difference by ensuring uptime for key applications, including email, file services, student management systems, transportation systems, and cafeteria systems."
Key features of the Dell PowerEdge VRTX include:
- Up to four dual Intel Xeon E5 processor server nodes;
- Up to 48 terabytes of data storage;
- Office-optimized form factor with low noise output;
- Support for 100V-240V AC power;
- Systems management that can be accessed locally or remotely;
- Integrated networking ports;
- RAID (redundant) storage;
- Redundant power supplies and fans; and
- Tower or 5U form factor rack mount option.
